10 TV Shows Cancelled in 2025 That Deserved More Seasons

The television industry never stops evolving—but 2025 was particularly brutal for several promising shows. From acclaimed revivals to fresh comedies and genre-defining dramas, these series were cancelled before completing their stories. While cancellations are nothing new, the early endings of these shows left fans confused, disappointed, and in some cases, rallying for a revival.

The Franchise and Suits LA: Big Names, Short Runs

HBO’s The Franchise had all the makings of a cult classic. With industry satire targeting the superhero genre and creative backing from Armando Iannucci and Sam Mendes, it premiered in 2024 to solid reviews. However, despite its clever take on Hollywood, the series was cut short in January 2025 due to high production costs and underwhelming viewership.

Similarly, Suits LA, the second spinoff of Suits, failed to replicate its predecessor’s magic. NBC pulled the plug in May 2025 after just one season, citing poor reception. Despite a promising lead in Stephen Amell, the show struggled to find its identity or audience.

Fan Favorites End Prematurely

Peacock’s Based on a True Story, led by Kaley Cuoco, left fans frustrated when it was cancelled after its second season—especially since it ended on a cliffhanger. Amazon’s Clean Slate, starring Laverne Cox, was hailed for its poignant storytelling and representation but was cancelled after one season. Political climate speculation has surrounded its sudden axing.

Netflix’s The Residence also suffered a swift demise, despite its top-performing debut. Uzo Aduba’s detective drama had the potential to evolve into a compelling anthology, but it fell victim to the platform’s increasingly ruthless culling strategy.

Even Established Shows Weren’t Safe

Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest ended after four seasons, although the finale was rewritten for closure. Despite positive reviews and a spinoff (Side Quest), the fan-favorite gaming comedy didn’t get the runway it deserved.

Other major cancellations included Hulu’s How to Die Alone, Netflix’s spy drama The Recruit, and Amazon’s big-budget fantasy series The Wheel of Time. All had potential for longevity, but shifting audience trends and high production costs ultimately sealed their fates.

The Fall of Frasier—Again

Perhaps the most bittersweet cancellation was Frasier (2023–2024). The revival aimed to rekindle the charm of the original, but lacked the iconic ensemble that defined its success. Paramount+ cancelled the series after two seasons. Despite efforts to shop it elsewhere, the reboot’s future remains uncertain.

As the TV landscape grows more competitive, even high-potential shows struggle to survive. Whether these series will find second lives remains to be seen—but for now, 2025 stands as a tough year for TV storytelling cut short.
