From Demon Kings to Heartbreak: Arc System Works Unleashes a Bold New Era

Key Takeaways

  • Double Dragon Revive’s Switch release expands the reach of the legendary franchise.
  • Arc System Works is branching out with new genres and visual styles in 2025.
  • Damon and Baby marks a surprising non-fighting debut from Guilty Gear’s Daisuke Ishiwatari.

Damon and Baby Announced by Guilty Gear Creator Daisuke Ishiwatari

Arc System Works held its highly anticipated showcase on June 27, 2025, revealing five new game projects currently in development. While fans of the studio’s signature fighting franchises were expecting a new entry in the genre, no fighting game was announced—though a familiar face did return with something different.

Daisuke Ishiwatari, the creator of the Guilty Gear series, introduced his latest title: Damon and Baby. Far from the fighting roots he’s known for, this new project is an action game. A short snippet of gameplay was revealed, showing stylized visuals but offering little in terms of mechanics. According to Arc System Works’ official X post, the story follows a demon king cursed to remain bound to a human child and his desperate attempts to break free.

Emotional Storytelling in Dear me, I was

Another standout reveal was Dear me, I was, an emotionally driven interactive adventure game. This title centers around a woman’s life, guiding players through personal and poignant moments across various life stages. What sets the game apart is its use of rotoscoping—a unique visual approach that replaces traditional 2D or 3D graphics with traced-over live-action footage, adding a raw and expressive tone to its storytelling.

Classic Franchises Return with a Twist

While there were no new fighting titles, Double Dragon Revive made an appearance with a fresh trailer. Previously announced, this showcase confirmed that the game will also be available on the Nintendo Switch, giving fans of the iconic beat ’em up more platforms to enjoy.

Two additional titles were also revealed:

  • Bubble Bobble: Sugar Dungeons, an arcade-style game infused with dungeon-crawling mechanics.
  • Demon’s Night Fever, a teaser trailer for what looks like a rhythm-action hybrid with dark fantasy themes.
