Ratatan Early Access Delayed Indefinitely as Developers Respond to Player Feedback

Key Takeaways:

  • Ratatan’s early access release is delayed indefinitely to improve the game based on community feedback.
  • Players voiced concerns over UI, gameplay pacing, skill usage, and overall presentation.
  • Kickstarter backers, especially console users, will receive extra rewards due to the delay.

The highly anticipated rhythm roguelike Ratatan will not be entering early access this July as originally planned. Developer Ratata Arts announced that the game’s early access launch has been delayed indefinitely following a massive wave of player feedback from its recent public demo.

Over 200,000 Downloads, 2,000+ Feedback Reports

In June, the Ratatan demo was downloaded more than 200,000 times, resulting in over 2,000 pieces of detailed player feedback. Ratata Arts said the scale and depth of community responses far exceeded their expectations. As a result, the studio concluded that it would be impossible to address all the concerns in time for the planned early access launch on July 25, 2025.

Key Issues Raised by Players

The developer has outlined five major areas of concern raised by players:

  • Complex tutorial and UI design made the game difficult to understand.
  • The roguelike structure and reward pacing were seen as unsatisfying.
  • Some players reported frustration over certain Ratatans being unable to use skills.
  • A lack of impact in visuals and presentation was noted.
  • There were widespread requests for improved content structure and mid-term gameplay flow.

These insights have prompted the team to reconsider their development timeline and prioritize refining the game to better match community expectations.

Kickstarter Backers to Receive Additional Rewards

Ratata Arts also addressed concerns from Kickstarter backers, particularly those who opted for console versions of the game. As these players will likely have to wait significantly longer than PC players, the developers are offering additional rewards to compensate for the extended delay.

No New Release Date Announced

Ratatan, developed by former Patapon developers, is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. However, a new early access or full launch date has not been set. The team has assured fans that more updates will be shared as development progresses.
