Paramount Pictures has officially announced the global theatrical release date for The Angry Birds Movie 3, setting the next chapter of the colorful, bird-flinging saga for January 29, 2027. Marking a shift from the Sony-distributed predecessors, this third installment will be Paramount’s flagship family event film for early 2027, and expectations are already sky-high.
The Angry Birds franchise has raked in over $500 million at the global box office across its first two films. With a loyal fanbase, expanded production partnerships, and a new ensemble of comedic talent, The Angry Birds Movie 3 is poised to reignite the franchise with energy, laughs, and cinematic spectacle.
Original Cast Returns Alongside All-Star Newcomers
The beloved voice actors behind Red, Chuck, Silver, and Bomb are back: Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom, and Danny McBride are all reprising their iconic roles. But this time, they’re joined by a powerhouse group of newcomers that bring fresh voices—and humor—to the flock.
The extended cast includes:
- Emma Myers (Wednesday)
- Keke Palmer (Nope)
- Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave)
- Lily James (Cinderella)
- Marcello Hernandez (Saturday Night Live)
- Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson and the Olympians)
- Sam Richardson, Anna Cathcart, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Nikki Glaser, James Austin Johnson, and even Psalm West (yes, the son of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West).
“This is some of the funniest talent working today,” said producer John Cohen (Despicable Me, The Garfield Movie). “Having Jason, Josh, Rachel, and Danny return, and surrounding them with this new group of comedy stars, is a dream lineup.”
A Collaborative Global Production with Familiar Names at the Helm
The film is directed by John Rice, who previously helmed The Angry Birds Movie and worked on Beavis & Butt-Head Do the Universe. The screenplay is penned by Thurop Van Orman, known for The Angry Birds Movie 2 and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. Van Orman also serves as executive producer alongside Toru Nakahara (Sonic the Hedgehog).
The production is being led by Rovio and SEGA, who are teaming up with Prime Focus Studios (under Namit Malhotra), Flywheel Media, One Cool Group, and dentsu. The collaboration marks Paramount’s first major theatrical partnership with Flywheel Media.
“The Angry Birds brand has demonstrated remarkable versatility, evolving from a mobile gaming sensation to a full-fledged cinematic franchise,” said Alex Pelletier-Normand, CEO of Rovio Entertainment. “This next movie will build on everything fans love while introducing a whole new generation to the flock.”
Art direction and animation are being handled by DNEG Animation, with Jeanie Chang as production designer and Francesca Natale as character designer. Grammy-winning composer Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) returns to score the film, continuing the musical legacy he began with the first Angry Birds movie.
A Cultural Icon Ready for Its Next Chapter
Originally launched as a mobile game in 2009, Angry Birds has since exploded into a multi-platform global IP that includes merchandise, TV shows, theme park attractions, and now, a third theatrical feature.
Paramount’s Marc Weinstock, President of Worldwide Marketing & Distribution, said it best: “Angry Birds transcends mediums and has been embraced and celebrated the world over. We’re thrilled to bring this latest installment to the big screen with an incredible cast and visionary creative team.”
The film will have the marketing muscle of dentsu’s global team, promising brand tie-ins and cultural campaigns to match the scale of the release. Cathy Boxall, Global Head of Entertainment at dentsu, emphasized the franchise’s “instant recognizability” and teased major promotional efforts to connect brands and fans alike.
With the January 2027 release firmly in place and a production team stacked with experience, The Angry Birds Movie 3 is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated family films of the year. As producer Don McGregor of Flywheel Media put it: “We couldn’t have a better start.”
