Outlast Trials

The Outlast Trials Season 4.2 Adds Permanent PvP Mode ‘Invasion’ and Brings Back Program Geister

Key Takeaways

  • Season 4.2 introduces Invasion, a new permanent PvP mode featuring Reagents and Imposters.
  • Program Geister returns, offering limited-time rewards and gameplay modifiers.
  • New MK-Challenges expand lore, blending psychological horror with narrative-driven objectives.

A New Era of Horror Begins

On October 21, 2025, The Outlast Trials entered Season 4.2, marking one of its most ambitious updates yet. Developer Red Barrels has added Invasion, a new permanent PvP game mode, alongside the return of Program Geister, fresh MK-Challenges, and an expanded in-game store.

The update strengthens The Outlast Trials’ status as a live horror experience—blending narrative-driven terror with unpredictable player encounters. Originally released in March 2024 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, the game serves as a prequel to Outlast and Outlast 2, placing players in gruesome psychological “trials” as human test subjects.

Invasion Mode: Horror Meets PvP

The highlight of Season 4.2 is the Invasion mode, where players can now embody either a Reagent (the test subject) or an Imposter (an infiltrator). Imposters can invade active trials, disrupt objectives, and sabotage survivors’ progress. However, only a limited number of Imposters can interfere with a trial at once—maintaining the series’ trademark tension without overwhelming chaos.

This addition transforms The Outlast Trials from a purely cooperative horror experience into one of psychological deception and competitive fear, where no one can truly be trusted.

Program Geister Returns with New Variators

Also returning this season is Program Geister, a limited-time event that rewards players with exclusive tokens by completing Trials and Geister Tasks. The event introduces five new “Variators,” modifiers that alter gameplay—such as More Imposters, No Player Names, and Enraged Enemies—making every run feel fresh and volatile.

Part one of Program Geister runs from October 21 to November 4, followed by part two from November 4 to November 18.

Expanding the Trials Universe

With the Invasion mode and Program Geister’s return, The Outlast Trials continues to evolve beyond survival horror, becoming an ever-shifting experiment in fear, paranoia, and power.
